Walter K. Hause, Sr.

Walter K. Hause, Sr., 91, of Berwick, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side, Saturday, April 6, 2024.  Born in Berwick on December 19, 1932, he was a son to the late Kenneth C. and H. Beryl (Varner) Hause.

Mr. Hause was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1950.  On September 17, 1951, he wed the former Janice J. O’Blosser.  They would share 43 years of marriage prior to her passing on January 6, 1995.  Walter was a longtime employee of Fahringer Lumber in Berwick.  He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  He was also a member of Knapp Lodge #462 F&AM and the Valley of Bloomsburg, Caldwell Consistory, as well as an initial member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America for the Columbia County Chapter.  Walter was a Berwick councilman and had served as council president.  He loved spending time with his family, by whom he will be deeply missed.  Walter was a friend to everyone.  He always felt that a stranger was just a friend he hasn’t met yet.

Surviving Walter are his children:  Walter K. Hause, Jr. and wife, Alison, of Bloomsburg and Cindy L. Hause of Bridgewater, NJ; grandchildren:  Brett Hause and wife, Chrissy, of Parkville, MD,  Adam El-Halim and wife, Jordan, of Mount Holly, NC, Karen Dermes and husband, Nick, of Catawissa, Ryan El-Halim of Bridgewater, NJ, and Zachary El-Halim of Bridgewater, NJ; six great-grandchildren; his long-time companion, Shirley Dodson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Janice J. (O’Blosser) Hause, and his brother, Donald C. Hause.

Walter’s funeral is 11:00 AM Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick.  His pastor, Rev. Chad Hebrink, will officiate.  Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral at 11:00 AM.  Masonic Funeral Service will be at 9:30 AM.  Interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery will follow.  Memorial contributions in Walter’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or to Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick, 1409 N.
