Ted G. Hess, 95, of Briar Creek Borough, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Born on the 200 block of 15th Street, Berwick, he was a son to the late Charles Clayton and Ruth Viola (Fowler) Hess.
Ted attended school in Berwick, Mifflinville, and Mainville, graduating from Berwick High School in 1946. Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Air Force. He was in the Phillipines and Japan during the occupation. While in Tokyo, he met Kinvz Matsuyama, runner up national three cushion billiards champion in the 1930’s, who taught him to play pool, a pastime that he enjoyed for many years. On June 7, 1950, he wed the love of his life, the late Arabella Mae (Rupert) Hess. Ted used the GI Bill to attend Penn State University, graduating in 1953. He formed Ted Hess Construction, and over his long career, constructed 86 homes in three counties. He was a life member of Sgt Reginald Vought VFW Post 821 in Berwick, as well as the West Berwick Hose Company, The Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436, and the Bloomsburg American Legion. Ted will be deeply missed by his beloved family.
Surviving Ted are his children: Linda Hess, Cheryl Yohey and husband, Paul, and Ruth Yoder and husband, Howard; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, the late Arabella Mae Hess. He was also preceded in death by his son, Charles Hess, granddaughter, Kristie (Kishbaugh) Hancock, and great-grandson, Taylor L. Hornickell.
All are welcome to join Ted’s family for his funeral 11 AM Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment at Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg, will follow.
