Susan J. (Dalberto) Bankes, 94, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Monday, December 27, 2021 at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. Born in Berwick on February 2, 1927, she was a daughter to the late Nicholas and Angeline (Desidero) Dalberto.
Susan was a graduate of Berwick Area Schools and had been a long time employee of Consolidated Cigar. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Berwick. Susan was an avid reader and enjoyed antiquing, cooking, gardening, and watching CNN. She was a wonderful homemaker and took great pride in the family homestead. Susan’s family was most important to her, and they will deeply miss her.
Surviving Susan are her daughter-in-law, Liliana Bankes of Berwick, sister, Julie Barski of Berwick, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hilary Bankes, who passed away July 21, 2003. She was also preceded by her son, Mark Bankes, her daughter, Lisa Bankes, who had passed while in infancy, and siblings: Anthony Dalberto, James Dalberto, Joseph Dalberto, Peter Dalberto, and Anna Altieri.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at St. Joseph Parish, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick. Her pastor, Reverend William T. Barbee will officiate as Celebrant. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will follow. Memorial contributions in Susan’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
