Richard Layne “Dick” Beck, 81, of Berwick, passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at his home. Born in Berwick on July 23, 1942, he was a son to the late Roland and Janet (Canouse) Beck.
Mr. Beck attended Berwick Area Schools. He enjoyed a long career in the railroad industry where he had served as a trackman for Conrail, which later became Norfolk Southern. On April 26, 1961, he wed the former Theresa A. Diltz, with whom he would raise a family and share 59 years of marriage. Dick attended LCBC Church Columbia-Montour and previously attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Berwick. He was a lifetime member of the West Berwick Hose Co. and a member of Piercing Arrows Bowhunters. Dick was a consummate outdoorsman who loved spending time hunting and fishing. He shared this passion with his family and friends, who regularly accompanied him on annual adventures in Canada. Richard will be fondly remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Surviving Dick are his son, Layne Beck and wife, Sandra, of Berwick; grandsons: Shane Beck and Randy Beck and wife, Felicia; great-grandchildren: Emily, Kylie, and Bryson; brothers: Dennis Beck, Doug Beck, and Tim Beck; sister, Marilyn Keller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa A. (Diltz) Beck, who passed away July 13, 2020. He was also preceded in death by son, Tab Beck, who died September 4, 2010; sister, Donna Monroe; and brother, Lanny Beck.
