Norma J. (McAfee) Hummel, 81, of Berwick, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, surrounded by her family. Born in Berwick on June 14, 1941, she was a daughter to the late Robert and Ruth (Eddinger) McAfee.
Mrs. Hummel was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1959. She was employed by the Dockey Shirt Factory and, later, the Fulton Lamp Company. On September 25, 1971, she wed the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Hummel. Norma and her husband were active members of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she had served as the Financial Recording Secretary and had been President of the United Methodist Women. Norma and Dick loved spending time with their family and church friends. They enjoyed traveling, especially visiting lighthouses, attending carnivals, and relaxing at their cabin. Norma also found joy tending to her flower gardens, having grown prize-winning roses.
Surviving Norma are her sister: Fay Kapuschinsky and husband, Mervin, of Berwick; nieces and nephews: Susan J. Long and husband, Robert, as well as their children Robert, Jr. and Tyler, Jackie Walker, Cindy Laidacker, and William Hummel, Jr.; sister-in-law: Nancy Croop and husband, William; and numerous cousins including Brett Eddinger and Michelle Kimbell.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Richard Hummel, who passed away March 21, 2008. She was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, William Hummel, Sr. and her beloved dog, Heidi.
Norma’s family would like to thank her neighbors and friends for their kindness in attending to Norma, especially in the past several years.

Friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of the service. Interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery will follow.
