Margaret “Ellen” Marquand, 76, of Berwick, passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born in Berwick on November 7, 1946, she was a daughter to the late Edgar and Naomi (Clark) Marquand.
Ms. Marquand was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1965, and continued her education at Old Dominion College. She had owned and operated a children’s clothing store, Clowning Around, along with co-owner, Brenda Gensemer. She was also a long-time employee of the Berwick Hospital, from which she retired in 2008. Ellen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Berwick. She was also a member of the Fort McClure Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Miquon Chapter of the Daughters of American Colonists, qualified as a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Mayflower Descendants, and had been a past president of the Columbia County Chapter of Soroptimists International. She was an avid reader and loved history. She also enjoyed shopping, listening to classical music, and spending time with her beloved family, friends, and the friends who became family.
Ellen is survived by her children: Lisa Seely and husband, Keith, of Berwick, Julie Klinger and husband, Jeffery, of Berwick, Marquand Brown and wife, Susan, of Oswego, NY, and Amy White and husband, Christopher, of York, England; grandchildren: Olivia, Maggie, and Abbie Seely, Alex, Evan, and Emma Klinger, Cordelia and Nate Brown, and Kaitlyn White; cousin, Jan Click; and life-long friends: Brenda Gensemer and Lynda Jones.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her brother, John Marquand.
All are welcome to join Ellen’s family for her funeral service 11 AM Thursday, August 17, 2023 at First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Market Street, Berwick. Pastor William Klebe will officiate. Calling hours will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, August 16 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick, and 10 AM until the time of the funeral service Thursday, August 17 at First United Methodist Church, Berwick. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Walnut Street, Berwick.
