Leigh Purdy Obituary

Leigh Algatt Purdy, 64, died December 16, 2021 in Savannah, Georgia.  Born May 15, 1957 in Berwick, PA, Leigh was the daughter of the late Richard and Constance (Seriff) Algatt.

Leigh was a ’75 graduate of Berwick High School and was a noted member of the school’s Choral groups and Homecoming court. She served as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Berwick YMCA.  Leigh graduated from Central Penn College and Cabrini College with BA in Organizational Management.

Leigh’s 33-year career in commercial real estate management, was culminated by 15-years as the Director of Corporate real estate management for AirGas USA Corporation in Radnor, PA and Marietta, GA.  Leigh’s personal lifetime accomplishments are many:

A beautiful and loving mother, so proud of her son, Nick.

A supportive and devoted daughter to her parents throughout their lives.

A dear and caring sibling to her brother and sister.

A fabulous and loyal best friend to her life-long friends.

And to the very end, how brave she was in her battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s for the last 6 years of her life.

Despite the devastating progression of Alzheimer’s and the loss of her bearings on this earth, her family and friends should take solace in that throughout her struggle, she felt everyone’s love for her.

Leigh would show a glimmer of recognition when she heard the name of a dear one, or the mention of a place or event that was special to her in her past, and she would respond with her beautiful smile.

May we all take comfort in the sweet memories of a beautiful life that was Leigh’s.

Leigh is survived by her son, Nicholas Purdy, her brother, Steven Algatt and his wife, Mary, her sister Laurie Algatt, her stepson, Shawn Purdy and his wife Mindy, her uncle Thomas Algatt and his wife, Anita, and her uncle Ron Keneipp, her nieces and nephews:  Julie Miller, Adam Algatt and Peter Algatt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Constance (Seriff) Algatt , her aunts Nancy Algatt Keneipp and Yvonne Seriff Burpee, and stepson, Todd Purdy.
