Kathleen Fedder Obituary

Kathleen Marie (Spaid) Fedder, 66, of Nescopeck, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton.

Born January 14, 1955, in Buffalo, NY, Kathy was the daughter of the late Wilbur “Pete” Spaid of Mifflinville and Mary Weissgerber of Nescopeck. She attended Berwick Area and Central Columbia schools before graduating from Columbia-Montour Area Vocational Technical School in 1972. She studied cosmetology and was a hair stylist before switching careers. Kathy worked for various contractors, including Bechtel Corporation and United Engineers & Contractors/Raytheon, at the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) from 1974 through 1994. For the next decade, she was the office manager at Bear Chrysler in Berwick. She was employed by Sordoni Construction Services as a field office manager at SSES since May 2008.

Kathy attended Berwick Assembly of God church for 35 years, where she taught children’s church, served in the nursery, and enjoyed the women’s ministries program. For years, she served as president of the alumni association at Vo-Tech and helped raise money through various events, including concerts, spaghetti dinners, and golf tournaments. Kathy also served on the planning commission for Nescopeck Borough.

Kathy was lovingly called “Mom” by everyone in her family - from her daughters to her grandchildren. She was beyond proud of her daughters. Mom never missed a track meet or important school event. She was their biggest supporter and number one fan. When her grandchildren came along, Mom set up swimming lessons for all of them and watched them practice in the pool nearly every week. She attended her older grandchildren’s soccer games and helped out the little ones during their tiny tumblers classes. Mom was the keeper of the Knoebels tickets and the first one to buy whatever gifts her grandchildren wanted.

She enjoyed girls’ trips with her dear friends. For the past seven years, Kathy loved spending time with her husband, family, and friends at their getaway in Dagsboro, Delaware near Bethany Beach. She loved to travel anywhere there was a beach, including Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and St. Lucia, where she married the love of her life.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, are brothers Richard Spaid and Frank Spaid; sister, Coralee (Spaid) Livziey; and step-son, Chad Fedder.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Norm Fedder, with whom she celebrated 20 years of marriage in August; daughter Kara Thompson, wife of Adam, of Nescopeck; daughter Kyla Riccobon, wife of Colin, of Nescopeck; step-son Brent Fedder of Benton; and bonus daughter Jennifer Marks, wife of Robert Jr., of Danville. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Makenna, Logan, Brody, and Lucas Thompson; Connor and Reese Riccobon; and Lexi Fedder. She is also survived by three brothers: Robert Spaid of Mifflinville, Mark Spaid of Berwick, and David Spaid of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews. Kathy also loved her dear friends Eileen Dietterick and Suzanne Hontz as though they were her sisters.

Friends are invited to join the family for a viewing at Berwick Assembly of God, 801 E. Fifth Street, from 6-8 pm on Monday, December 20.
