Henry P. West, 83, of Berwick, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 in Littleton, NC. Born in Berwick on February 20, 1938, he was a son to the late Clement and Lydia (Ladonis) West.
Henry was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1956. He furthered his education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College, graduating in 1960. Following graduation, Mr. West began his teaching career in Centennial School District, Warminster, Pa. before returning to Berwick. His love of teaching and engaging with his students propelled him throughout a career that lasted more than thirty years, teaching 5th grade at Nescopeck Elementary. He retired in 1993. Henry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Maria Assunta Society and of the Wilkes-Barre Sportsman Club, in which he trained and raced homing pigeons. Henry was an avid gardener and hunter. Henry loved to attend Berwick Area sporting events, especially those which his family members and students participated. His greatest joy, however, was his family, by whom he will be greatly missed.
Surviving Henry are his children: Lydia Keefer and husband, Brad, of Berwick, Michael West and wife, Sandra, of NC, and Nicole Siegel and husband, Todd, of Berwick; step-children: Nicole Readler and husband, Josh, of Hobbie and Meredith Lehman and husband, Kirk, of Riverside; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings: Victoria DeFrancisco, Leonard West, and Albert West.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by brothers: Theodore West and Clement West, Jr.
All are welcome to join Henry’s family for his viewing 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc. 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, April 15, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick. His pastor, Reverend Matthew R. Larlick will officiate as Celebrant. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick, will follow.
