Henry V. Hemmen, Sr., 88, of Fourth Street, Bloomsburg (Lime Ridge), died Sunday, April 10, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born June 20, 1933 in Devon, PA he was the son of the late Henderikus “Henry” V. Hemmen and Jane (Rainey) Hemmen.  He was preceded in death by his companion, Gloria J. Michael, on March 3, 2013 and his sister, Nancy Tolson.

Henry graduated from Bloomsburg High School. Henry was very proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force.  He was a life-long mechanic working for several companies throughout his career.  He was a member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436 and the Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273.  Henry was an avid sports car racer and former 2-time PA State Hill Climb Champion.  His most favorite things were fishing, golfing, biking and spending as much time as possible with his loving family. 

Surviving are his two sons, Henry V. Hemmen, Jr. and wife, Patti, of Sebastian, Florida and Lance V. Hemmen, and wife, Elizabeth, of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren: Caleb Hemmen, and wife, Jennifer, of Columbus, Ohio and Vanessa Hemmen of Edenton, North Carolina; step grandson, Alexander Walp, of State College, Pennsylvania; stepchildren James Michael and wife, Wendy, and their children and Barbara Fenstermacher and husband, Dennis, and their children.  He cherished spending time with his extended family in the Netherlands and close friends that he leaves behind.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or to the Bloomsburg American Legion Auxiliary Unit 273, 110 Juniper Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
