Hazel Meske Obituary

Hazel G. “Bunni” Meske, 88, formerly of Berwick, entered into the Place prepared for her by her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, March 25, 2023 at Providence Place of Drums. Born in East Tawas, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Waldo and Anna (Vasicek) Gordon. She was known as Bunni since birth.

Bunni graduated from East Tawas High School, married Don Meske the following day, and went to Texas when he joined the army during the Korean Conflict. She and Don celebrated their 70th anniversary on June 7, 2022.

Bunni was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, taking great pride in caring for her family. She loved cooking and baking and having her family together at her table. She was devoted to God, and enjoyed participating in Bible studies. She made 3 mission trips to Russia with Josh McDowell ministries to share her faith. She was also a released-time Bible teacher in the Berwick schools for many years. Bunni was an assistant Girl Scout leader for several years when her daughters were members. She loved bowling, and participated on the Stuccios women’s bowling team for many years. Bunni also delivered Meals-on-Wheels in the Berwick area and enjoyed visiting with the shut-ins to which she took meals. Two of her favorite activities were enjoying the Michigan beach in the summer and ice skating in the winter.

Bunni enjoyed hunting since being taught as a teenager by her older brother. She hunted with Don in Ethiopia, South Africa, British Columbia, Alaska, Mongolia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She also loved fishing in Alaska.

Bunni will be greatly missed by daughters Nikki Shiner (Don), Bunni Burlingame (Glen), Annie Karns (Ron), and Gena Guerin (Mark), and son, Dan Meske (Noelle). Also, there are 13 grandchildren: Don, Joel, Joshua, Sam, Kurt, Will, Jack, Cody, Kylee, Camryn, Caitlin, Rebecca, and Alexandra, and 4 great-grandchildren: Michaela, Buckley, Evan, and Scarlett. Also surviving her are sisters Anna June and Patricia Gay and brother Roger. Along with her parents and husband, Bunni was preceded in death by son Donald E., Jr., brothers Walt and Keith, sisters Elizabeth Jane and Marjorie, and sister-in-law Sherry Meske.

The funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Mifflinville United Methodist Church, 4th and Market Streets, Mifflinville. Pastor Joshua Yorks will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of the service. Private interment services for the family will be held at a later date.
