Harvey Longenberger, Sr. Obituary

Harvey B. Longenberger, Sr., 88, of Fowlersville, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 14, 2023 at his home with his family at his side.  Born in Berwick on January 2, 1935, he was a son to the late Bryson C. and Elizabeth (Harvey) Longenberger.  Harvey was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Joan (Samsel) Longenberger, who passed away in 1994.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Longenberger was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1952.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959.  Harvey displayed amazing work ethic; being a life-long farmer who also worked away from the farm at the Berwick Forge & Fabricating until his retirement in 1998. He was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Berwick, where he sang in the choir. Being a Lifetime member of the NRA,  Harvey enjoyed hunting, particularly for black bear in Canada. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially the Statler Brothers, country music or anything else that he could sing along with.  He had a fantastic sense of humor, for which he had been noted in his high school yearbook and kept throughout his days. He loved spending time in the presence of his family and friends, by whom he will be greatly missed.

Surviving Harvey are his fiancée, Grace Rubery; his children:  Elizabeth (George) Dawson of Tennessee, Harvey (Stella) Longenberger, Jr. of Berwick, Clinton (Brenda) Longenberger of Berwick, Tracy (Michael) Copenhaver of Danville, and Mitchell (Sherri) Longenberger of Orangeville; grandchildren:  Carl Longenberger, Meagan Evans, Kelly Longenberger Warunek, Cord Longenberger, Bryson Copenhaver, Adam Copenhaver, Colt Longenberger, and Trent Longenberger; four great grandchildren; additional family members Heather (James) Wolfe, of Nescopeck; grandchildren:  Carlynn Brown and Jacob Wolfe; and three great-grandchildren.

All are welcome to join Harvey’s family for his funeral 11 AM Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1600 Fowler Avenue, Berwick.  Bishop Emerita Barb Collins will officiate.  Friends will be received from 9 AM until the time of the service.  Interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery will follow his funeral.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1600 Fowler Avenue, Berwick, PA 18603.
