On Saturday, June 5th, 2021, Ella B. Hayes, God-fearing beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother, Sister, Mother-in Law, Aunt and Friend passed away at age 94.
Mrs. Hayes was born March 30, 1927 to the late Elma and MB Lockett of Dixons Mills, Alabama. Marengo County School is where she acquired her education. She married the late Edward Gordon Hayes, Sr. of Pleasant Hill, Alabama in 1941. Of that union, 12 children were born. After living in Geneva, Alabama, Mr. Hayes moved the family to Berwick, Pennsylvania in December 1966, where Mrs. Hayes resided as a housewife. She later moved to Nescopeck in December 1971. Mrs. Hayes attended Albright United Methodist Church in Nescopeck until she became a member of Susquehanna Valley Revival Center, now known as Spirit Life Church.
Survivors include six daughters: Lillie Walker-Dickerson of Detroit, Michigan, Elouise Holmes, Elois Holmes, Linda Brittain, Nellie Hayes-Parks, and Angie Adams all of Phoenix, Arizona; five sons: Willie of Detroit, Michigan, Bobby, Percy, Rickey, and Stanley of Berwick; sisters: Lela Mae of Georgia and Elma Holloway of Gary, Indiana. 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; six sons-in-law: Jesse Dickerson, Fred Holmes, Jerry Holmes, Clarence Brittain, Willie Parks, and Tom Adams; four daughters-in-law: Mona Hayes, Susan Hayes, Renee Hayes, and Carla Hayes, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and devoted friends.
She was preceded in death by spouse, Mr. Edward Gordon Hayes Sr., son: Edward Gordon Hayes, Jr., daughter-in-law: Dorothy Hayes, one sister, five brothers, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
All are welcome to join Mrs. Hayes’s family for her funeral 11 AM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Spirit Life Church, 1338 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg. Pastor Tim Zimmerman will officiate. Her viewings will be 6-8 PM Friday, June 11, 2021 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick, and 10-11 AM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Spirit Life Church.
