David J. Varner, 77, of Coopersburg, formerly of Berwick, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. Born in Berwick on October 18, 1943, he was a son to the late Charles and Geraldine (Parker) Varner.
David was a 1962 graduate of Berwick Area High School. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. David operated a refrigeration repair business in Berwick before his employment as an HVAC contractor at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster. He later moved to Southern Maryland, where he worked for Southern Maryland Electrical Cooperative, from which he retired. David was a member of the Berwick V.F.W. Post 821, and in his younger years, had been active with Defender Fire Company and the Berwick Jaycees. He enjoyed classic cars, fishing, and playing pool. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. His greatest joy, however, was his family, by whom he will be sorely missed.
Surviving David is his loving wife of 27 years, the former Mary Elizabeth Channell. He is also survived by his children: Karen Armstrong and Scott Varner, both of Berwick; stepson: Brian Urbonas and wife, Sierra Tipton-Urbonas; grandchildren: Scott Moss, Jennifer Moss, and Jaylen Armstrong; great-grandson: Connor Moss; siblings: Stanton Varner and wife, Bernie, Richard “Dick” Varner and wife, Marcy, and Hope Dohl.
