Clark E. Whitenight, 81, of Berwick, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at his home. Born November 20, 1939 in Bloomsburg, he was the son of the late Bruce and Eunice (Barber) Whitenight.
He was a 1957 graduate of the Central Columbia High School. In 2019, he was inducted into the Central Columbia Athletic Hall of Fame.
He was involved in sports, mainly baseball, during his younger years. He played Little League, Teener League, Bloomsburg Junior Legion, High School, and Tri-County Baseball. He was known for his skill on the pitcher’s mound. Clark pitched the game that won Central Columbia the championship in 1957 with a 1-0 score. He also played in the slow pitch softball league. He coached Little League Boy’s Baseball for 19 years and Teener League Boy’s Baseball for four years. Clark was a loyal fan of the Dodger’s baseball team and the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball team. His greatest pleasure was attending his granddaughter’s softball, soccer, and basketball games. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Berwick, where he served on the board of trustees. Clark retired from Wise Foods.
Clark was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his best friend of 63 years and wife of 56 years, Jean (Thomas) Whitenight, son, Brian E. Whitenight, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline (Markiewicz) Whitenight, granddaughter, Rachel E. Whitenight, a brother-in-law, Leonard Thomas and wife, Linda, of DE, a sister-in-law, Ruth Whitenight of FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
