Cecil J. Shaffer passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, with family by his side. He was born in 1931 in South Bethlehem, PA to Grant and Lillian Shaffer, the fifth of six children.
Upon graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Currituck and the USS Tarawa during the Korean conflict. He made a trip around the world on the USS Tarawa.
After honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended Ball State University for 2 years, then transferred and graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. He then met and married his wife Marie and moved to Berwick. Cecil worked as a manufacturer’s representative in design and sales for pre-engineered steel buildings, a job he enjoyed very much enjoyed and for which he received many awards and recognition. He was a consultant on the building committee for the new sanctuary at Emmanual Bible Chapel where he attended at the time. He later attended Shiloh Bible Church in Bloomsburg.
Cecil made many trips to Canada to fish and loved his boat, traveling in his motorhome, and taking his family on vacations.
He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Marie, four daughters Lauren Shaffer, Susan Spear, Becky (Mark) Pruitt and Amy (Mike) Nedzesky, and daughter-in-law Linnae Shaffer as well as six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister.
He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, and one brother. He was also predeceased by his son Eric and son-in-law Will Spear.
All are welcome to join Cecil’s family for his funeral 11 AM Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. His pastor, Reverend Dr. Douglas Lyon, will officiate. Friends will be received from 5-7 PM Monday, August 28 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick and from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service on Tuesday, August 29 at Shiloh Bible Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Bible Church at the above address or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
