Carmella Benscoter Obituary

Carmella L. Benscoter, 71, of Berwick, died peacefully Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with her family at her side.  Born in Hazleton on August 31, 1949, she was a daughter to the late Alfred and Anna (Hinkle) Kirk.

Carmella was a graduate of Hazleton High School, Class of 1967.  On September 9, 1972, she wed Charles Benscoter, with whom she would raise her family and share 48 years of marriage.  Carmella worked at the Berwick Hospital Center, from which she retired, for 32 years.  She had been a member of Beach Haven United Methodist Church and had attended Lime Ridge United Methodist Church.  Carmella was a kind and caring woman who treasured time spent with her family.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her sister, Donna Klinger; staying over at her home, going shopping, and having cake and hot tea.  She loved cooking, baking, gardening, and mowing grass.  She also enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays, the Hallmark Channel, music (especially Elton John), and watching the Phillies.

Surviving Carmella is her husband, Charles Benscoster, of Berwick.  Also surviving are children:  Diane Samsel and husband, Troy, of Berwick and Eric Benscoter and wife, Melissa, of Bloomsburg; grandchildren:  Alyssa Benscoter, Kyle Samsel, Mason Benscoter, and Eleanor Benscoter; siblings:  Donna and Alfred; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by siblings:  Tommy, Lillian, and Jake.
