Carla M. Canouse, 61, of Berwick, PA, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was born in Berwick on September 21, 1961 to Avis (Samsel) Devine and the late Carl Devine, Sr.
Carla was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1979. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Berwick. She was a long-time employee of Bernardi Frozen Foods in Bloomsburg and ended her career as a loyal employee at Bimbo Bakeries of Hazleton. Carla was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, wife, aunt, and cousin. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Carla had a special bond with her children, mother, sister, granddaughter, and niece, often going on rides and sightseeing adventures together. She had a knack for teasing and joking, bringing laughter to those around her.
Carla loved the beach and made it a point to visit as often as possible during the summer. She made sure to have a girls’ night every Friday, and the activities ranged from a simple dinner to seeing a movie to driving around looking for carnivals and small fairs in surrounding towns. She was a Bloomsburg Fair enthusiast, steadfastly holding a grudge against Hurricane Agnes for dampening her fair fever in 1972. Her passion for the fair and beach endured until her last breath.
Carla is survived by her husband of 42 years, Gary Canouse, her children: Justin Canouse (Rebecca Stahl), Jarred Canouse, and Kathryn Canouse (Cody Early), and her granddaughter Kiernin Canouse. She is also survived by her mother, Avis Devine, her sister, Vickie Kacyon (Steve), and her brothers: Carl “Butch” Devine (Brenae) and Randy Devine (Wendi), and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
