Anna M. Winder, 66, of Nescopeck Township, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2023 after a 15-year battle with dementia. She was born in Fort Pierce, FL on September 12, 1956, to Leroy, Sr and Betty Haugh. Anna lived a life of fierce devotion to her faith, balanced with extra measures of love and joy. She never met a stranger until she developed dementia, then said of those nearest her, “I meet new friends every day!” Anna lived a full, vibrant life that is difficult to summarize in a few words.
Anna loved to read, especially her Bible. Anna’s faith epitomized 1 John 3:16-18, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth” (ESV).
Anna was likely most known for her 25-year employment at Boyer’s Food Market, Berwick. She always greeted customers with a huge, warm smile, which she retained into the final days of her illness, and thrived on lightening their burdens with an encouraging word or a brief prayer. Anna was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone without condemnation.
Anna joins some of those she loved most, including her late parents, her brother, Leroy, Jr., and two children lost during pregnancy. She leaves behind her husband, Pastor Jim Winder; children: William Winder, Elizabeth (Brian) Clark, Michael (Jessica) Winder; grandchildren: Daniel, Cadi, Nathaniel, Jacob, Evan, Abigail, and Levi; and beloved sister, Sheila (Larry) Basham.
The Funeral Service will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church, 208 Church Road, Nescopeck, PA at 11 AM Saturday, March 4, 2023. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial at Mount Zion Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Anna’s name may be made to The Gideons International, PO 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800. Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements. Online messages of comfort and support can be left at www.kelchnerfuneralhome.com.
