William Adkins, 74, of Berwick and Wicomico Church, VA, died Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Berwick Hospital Center. Born September 20, 1942 in Hampton, VA, he was a son to the late Elvin Adkins and Dorothy (Lester) Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a member of the Hampton High School (VA) Class of 1960 and later attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he obtained an associate degree. He worked as an electrical engineer for Corning Glass, which later became Ciba Geigy, until his retirement in 1998. William was an avid sailor, logging over 10,000 miles. He sailed from Massachusetts to Nova Scotia, and on another journey sailed from Massachusetts to Virginia. He was an avid tinkerer, primarily enjoying electronic devices, such as radios. He was also a weather enthusiast and enjoyed tinkering with weather monitoring equipment. Surviving William is his loving wife of 38 years, Sandra Craver Adkins. He is also survived by a son, Tom Adkins, of Newport News, VA and a brother, Butch Adkins, and wife Dru, of Gloucester, VA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick, with Pastor Laura King of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
