Warren E. "Gene" Forsythe, 68, of West Front Street, Berwick, passed away Wednesday, February 18th, 2015 at his home. Born August 16, 1946 in Hollenbach Township, he was a son of the late Warren W. and Thelma Flora (Whitebread) Forsythe. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dale R. Forsythe, who was killed in the Vietnam War. Gene and his wife, Kathy Jane (Knorr) Forsythe, would have celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary on May 10th. He was a graduate of Nescopeck High School and then faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army; serving in the Vietnam War and suffered from the effects of Agent Orange exposure. He served in the 9th Division in Vietnam as a radio repairman on the artillery barges. Mr. Forsythe had been employed by PPL as an Electrical Structural Foreman for 38 years, retiring in 2002. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Berwick where he had served as a Trustee. He was also a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Pocono Chapter No. 678 and a member of the Air Stream Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Kathy, are son: Brian K. Forsythe and his wife, Nancy, of Freeland and their children: Dylan A. and Madison S.; another son, Bradley E. Forsythe, of Hazleton; and a brother, Willis Forsythe, and his wife, Susan, of Berwick and nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1000 Orange Street, Berwick, with the Rev. Dennis McCracken, his Pastor, officiating with Military Honors as well. Entombment will be at a later date at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick. A Viewing will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Pocono Chapter 678, P. O. Box 103, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
