Thomas R. Clymer, 78, of North Centre Township, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Born in Sellersville, PA on March 26, 1946, he was a son to the late Wilmer E. and Margaret E. (Hirschberger) Clymer.
Mr. Clymer was a graduate of Centennial Joint School, Class of 1964. On April 28, 1965, he wed the love of his life, the former Carol Sue Burger, with whom he would raise his family and share more than 59 years of marriage. Tom served seven years of active duty in the US Navy aboard nuclear submarines beginning in January of 1965 and continued his service in the Navy Reserve until 1988. While in the reserves, he was an E8 in charge of his unit at Annapolis Naval Academy’s Small Boat Facility restoring and repairing the many boats used by Midshipmen students and later working in the Naval Museum at Washington, DC, restoring historic boats used in the early Navy Fleet. Tom’s civilian job involved his nuclear training, serving five years as a licensed operator with Baltimore Gas & Electric. Having returned to Pennsylvania, he worked at Pennsylvania Power & Light in Allentown and finally at the Susquehanna Nuclear Plant, where he retired after 33 years.
During the last 10 years, Tom was involved at the American Red Cross, giving platelets with the goal of helping children battling cancer. His total contribution totaled 436 units. He was active at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, having served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Trustee Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Youth Group leader. Tom enjoyed working with the Briar Creek Area Watershed and served as Auditor for the township, Secretary, Treasurer, Township Supervisor, Parks Director, and finally Business Manager. He loved snowy nights when the Roadmaster called for his assistance plowing snow. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his beloved family and friends.
Surviving Tom is his beloved wife, Carol Sue (Burger) Clymer; daughter, Wendi Clymer Devine and husband, Randy M.; son-in-law, Thomas Clark; grandchildren: Thomas R. Devine, Courtney M. Devine, Michael J. Devine Hannah Clark Martz and husband, Austin, Collin R. Clark, Colbe A. Clark and wife, Taylor, and Caele Clark; and great-grandchildren: Finley, Rowan, and Malakai.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by daughter, Kimberly A. Clark.
All are welcome to join Tom’s family for his Funeral Service 11 AM Monday, October 21, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1000 Orange Street, Berwick, PA 18603. Pastor George Price will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM. His interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler will be 11 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
