Susan E. Swisher, 69, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Monday, August 18, 2025 at her home with her family at her side. Born in Berwick on April 22, 1956, she was a daughter to the late Graydon R. Houck and the late Betty E. (Whitmire) Schell.
Susan was a graduate of Columbia Montour Area Vocational Technical School, Class of 1974, where she studied cosmetology. She was employed for many years by Deluxe Homes before accepting a position at Autoneum, from which she retired. On November 5, 1988, Susan wed William E. Swisher, with whom she shared 28 years of marriage. Susan was an active member of JourneyMate Wesleyan Church, Lighstreet. She enjoyed movies, shopping, and decorating her home for any holiday or season. She was an avid crafter, a passion she shared with her granddaughter, Lilliana. Susan loved her family and her friends and cherished the times spent with them.
Surviving Susan are her children: Steven J. Ryman and wife, Kristy Kruger, of Spokane, WA, Eric W. Swisher and wife, Zoe, of Bloomsburg, and Lindsay R. Ruckle and husband, Marcus, of Buckhorn; grandchildren: Sarah Jane and Lilliana Swisher; and siblings: Graydon R. Houck and fiancée, Bonnie Freeman, of Berwick, Polly E. Pruitt and husband, Boo, of Nescopeck, and Lorrie A. Davenport and husband, Don, of Berwick.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Swisher, who passed away July 28, 2017. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John B. Houck.
Susan’s Funeral Service will be 11 AM Friday, August 22, 2025 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. JourneyMate Wesleyan Church Senior Pastor Thomas Carney will officiate. Her viewings will be 6-8 PM Thursday, August 21, 2025 and 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM Friday, August 22, 2025, both at the funeral home. Interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery will follow her funeral. Memorial contributions in Susan’s name may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation at NPCF, P.O. Box 189, Box Elder, SD 57719.
