Susan R. (Grasley) Carrathers, 70, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Monday, April 16, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born in Danville May 7, 1947, she was a daughter to the late Duval and Kathryn (Stout) Grasley. Susan was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1965. While of school age, she worked on the family farm. During these years, Sue discovered her love of animals, especially horses and horseback riding. She worked at the Fulton Lamp Factory in Berwick prior to starting a family and devoting her time to raising her young children. In 1977, Sue began working at the Carrathers Store, where she would work with her family until its closing in 2012. Sue was a member of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church and the Riverwoods Auxiliary Ministry Program. She was also a member of the Keystone Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club and, along with her husband, was a supporter of local dirt track late model racing. While her children were young, she was a breeder and handler of Doberman Pinschers and showed them in AKC competition. A kind, caring and loving woman of great faith, Susan will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her. Surviving Sue is her devoted husband of 50 years, Martin Carrathers. She is additionally survived by daughter: Jennifer Timbrell and husband, Shawn, of Berwick, grandchildren: Ellen Celli and husband, Stephen, of Berwick, Claire Timbrell and Amelia Timbrell, both of Berwick, sisters: Carolyn Collins and companion, Bud Ferrone, of Berwick and Vicki Gdanski and husband, Jerry, of Lafayette Hill, son-in-law: Neil Whitmoyer of Berwick, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by daughter: Karen Whitmoyer and her beloved French Bulldog, Alice. All are welcome to join Susan's family for her memorial service 7:30 P.M., Monday, April 23 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. until the time of service. Her pastor, Reverend Ralph Hartenbach, will officiate. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
