Stephen John Lazar, 97, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018 at Berwick Retirement Village I, surrounded by his family. He was born August 17, 1920 in Beaver Meadows, PA, son to the late Michael and Helen (Warkola) Lazar. Stephen served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Asia-Pacific theatre. After the war he began an apprenticeship as a cement mason and worked his way up to journeyman. He continued working as a mason until his retirement. He also served as Vice President of the Cement Masons and Bricklayers Union. A devout Catholic, Stephen was a member of St. Joseph Church. Stephen was an avid Phillies fan. He also loved to hunt and fish, but his favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. Stephen married the love of his life, the former Lillian Suchajda, November 27, 1946, and they recently celebrated their 71st anniversary. As well as his wife, Stephen is survived by son, Stephen M. Lazar and wife, Terri of Berwick, daughter, Mary Lou Parsons and husband, Edward of Linglestown, six grandchildren: Jamison, Stephen, Zachary, Jonathan, Jessica, and Corey, and two great-grandchildren: Keaton and Nova. In addition to his parents, Stephen was preceded in death by granddaughter, Amber Lynn, seven brothers, and four sisters.
