Shirley M. (Stark) Fisher

Shirley M. Fisher, 85, of Mifflinville, died peacefully, surrounded by her family at her residence Friday, April 28, 2017. She was born February 22, 1932 in Hazleton, a daughter to the late Robert and Eva Mae (Hill) Stark. Shirley was a graduate of Hazle Township High School where she was a majorette. In 1951 she married the love of her life, James Fisher, who passed away in 2009 after 58 years of marriage. Shirley lived most of her life in Somerville, New Jersey where she worked at Ethicon Medical Supplies (Johnson & Johnson) until her retirement. She was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinville. Additionally, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Century Chapter #100. A talented pianist, she served as the accompanist for many school plays and programs. Shirley also was a skilled seamstress. She fashioned choir robes for the Somerville Lutheran Church choirs. Shopping, especially for shoes, was one of her favorite pastimes along with cooking. Her greatest joy, however, was time spent in the company of her family and friends. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. Surviving Shirley are her daughters: Denise Moroney and husband, Vincent of Mifflinville, Jeanmarie Kester and husband, Penrose of Nescopeck, and Maribeth Moran of Mifflinville; 8 grandchildren: Joseph, James, Kyle, Molly, Russell, Kevin, Penny, and Laura; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. Friends will be received 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, May 1 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Shirley's funeral is 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 2 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5th and Race Streets, Mifflinville. Her pastor, Brian Vasey will serve as the officiant. Interment will follow at the Mifflinville Cemetery. The Fisher family is asking that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O.
