Shirley C. Gearhart, 89, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Friday, September 20, 2019 at Berwick Retirement Village II. Born in Berwick September 23, 1929, she was a daughter to the late Roscoe and Jessie (Roberts) Gearhart. Shirley was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1947. Following graduation, she worked at the AC&F in Berwick and later as an electrician for Bechtel Power Corp, from which she retired. Shirley was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a longtime member of Berwick Chapter #228 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time and boating with family and friends at the family property at Lake Sylvan. She had inherited her father's ingenuity and handiness and had helped her parents build both their lake home and Berwick residence. Surviving Shirley are her close friends Keith, Lisa, Olivia, Maggie, and Abbie Seely, all of Berwick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving fiance of 35 years, the late James Cortright. All are welcome to attend Shirley's graveside service 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 27, 2019 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Reverend Christine Kirchner will officiate. In keeping with Shirley's love of dogs, memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Berwick Community Dog Park, Care of Dog Park Committee, 1120 East 4 ½ Street, Berwick, PA 18603. Checks should be made payable to Salem Township with "Dog Park" on the memo line. The Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home is honored to be handling Shirley's arrangements.
