Sarah Ann (Eshleman) Zenzel, of Briar Creek Township (Berwick) went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 while residing at Celebration Villa, Blakely, PA, where she was well like and cared for by the staff. She will certainly be missed. She was the daughter of the late Harold, Sr. and Elizabeth (Slusser) Eshleman
Sarah attended Berwick Area Schools, graduating in 1950, with a brief employment at the Berwick ACF in the clerical department. She married her husband, Frank Zenzel, Sr., in the Holy Annunciation Orthodox Church in Berwick, started a family, and then moved to Michigan and then Alaska before returning to Berwick and purchasing a farm, where they raised Black Angus cattle for many years. During that time, she was employed by Consolidated Cigar Company in Berwick before the company moved to McAdoo, from which she retired. She loved working in her beautiful flower gardens around their home. She also had a vegetable garden for a short time, until she saw a snake and ran to the house calling for her husband. This was just one of many funny moments. Sarah was well loved by family and friends for her friendliness and kindness. She was a very independent and adventurous person with a little bit of spunk and stubbornness.
Sarah is survived by her son, Frank Zenzel, Jr. and his wife, Holly, of Berwick; step-granddaughters: Erika, Krista, and Heidi; step-great-grandson, Mason; and step-great-granddaughter, Kinley; sister, Marian Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
Sarah is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Zenzel, Sr., in 2017; her sisters: Isabel Heckman, Dorothy Eshleman, Janet Blatherwick, and Shirley Bailey; and brothers: Pete, Harold, Jr., known as “Bud”, Jim, and Dave.
Sarah’s funeral will be 11 AM Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. 3rd Street, Berwick. Reverend Michael Demko will officiate. Her viewing will be from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment at Holy Annunciation Orthodox Cemetery will follow her funeral.
