Ruby J. Sherman

Ruby J. (Hoyt) Sherman, 88, of Berwick, went to be with the Lord March 30, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Arilla Hoyt, of Muhlenburg, on February 10, 1938. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.

She spent her childhood in Muhlenburg and was in the last graduating class of Shickshinny High School in 1956. She worked for Berwick Offray until retirement. In her free time, she enjoyed working in her yard, spending time with family and friends, and doing for others. She was an active member of Bethany Church of Berwick for many years. Many will remember her by her infectious laugh.

Preceding her in death were daughters: Debra Coolbaugh and Lisa Coolbaugh; mother, Arilla Hoyt; sister, Lois Lucia; and companion of many years, Robert Jones.

She is survived by son, William Coolbaugh; daughter, Kimberly (Sherman) Varner and companion, Eddie Bibles, whom Ruby loved like a son, all of Berwick; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and siblings: Rita Adams and husband, Norm Adams, of Sunbury, Wayne Hoyt and wife, Nellie Hoyt, of Berwick, Donald Hoyt and wife, Marie Hoyt, of Berwick, and Lloyd Hoyt and wife, Nan Hoyt, of Berwick.

Family and friends are welcome at her Memorial Service 11 AM, Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Bethany Church of Berwick, 116 Summerhill Avenue, Berwick, PA 18603. Her pastor, Rev. John W. Leek, will officiate. Interment will follow at Bloomingdale Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Ruby’s name may be sent to Bethany Church of Berwick at the address above.
