Richard A. Weikel, 60, of Berwick, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his home.
Born November 11, 1960 in Ashland, Schuylkill County, he was a son of John W. Weikel, of Wapwallopen and the late Loretta (Kehres) Simpson, who died March 21, 2015.
He attended Berwick High School and later obtained his associate degree from Luzerne County Community College in social work.
He spent most of his life in maintenance and was last employed by Red Rock Job Corps. He had previously worked for the DANA Corporation; Heller’s Gas and RAD Woodwork Company.
Richard faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army and was actively involved with the AMVETS Post 93 and later Post 9. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Berwick Elks, the Ukrainian Club, the Russian Club and the Slavonic Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Mitzi L. Spring of Hughesville; his companion, Rachel Belalis and her children; six grandchildren: Ava, Matilyn, Logan, Chase, Alexis and Kalie; a sister, Kathy Moyer and her husband, Dennis, of Wapwallopen; and his father, John.
Preceding him in death along with his mother was his son, John A. Weikel, who died September 11, 2019 and by two brothers that died in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 27th, 2021 at 11 AM at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Burial will be in the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Berwick, with full military honors. A Viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania, 3 Fort Indiantown Gap, #3-97, Annville, PA 17003.
