Richard ´Dick´ W. Baer

Richard W. "Dick" Baer, 89, of Berwick, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Berwick Retirement Village II. He was born October 18, 1929 in Berwick, a son of the late Roy and Ethel (Hess) Baer. Dick attended Berwick schools where he graduated in 1947. His work history included driving bread truck, employment at Berwick Weaving, the Dennison Hotel in Atlantic City, Sutter Hardware, and as a dispatcher at Wise Potato Chip Company for 43 years before retiring. He served honorably in the Army from 1951 thru 1953 with duty on the island of Okinawa. Dick was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Berwick, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Councilman, Worship and Music committee member, and member of the Tape Ministry. He also volunteered at the local food bank and with Meals on Wheels. Fishing, Penn State football, and spending time with his family were some of his favorite interests. Surviving Dick is his daughter, Jody Johnson and husband, Doug of Berwick, sons: Robert and William Baer and grandson, Christian Baer, all of North Carolina. As well as his parents, Dick was preceded in death in 2004 by his loving wife, the former Rose Beck. Additionally preceding in death were 2 sisters: Phyllis and Shirley and a brother, Gordon. Dick was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Dick's funeral is 1:00 PM Saturday, June 29th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM until time of the funeral. Pastor John R. Koons and Pastor Christine Kirchner will serve as the officiants. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Dick's memory be sent to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1600 Fowler Avenue, Berwick, PA 19603.
