Richard R. "Dick" Thomas, 87, of Oberlin, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Spring Creek Health Care Center, Harrisburg. He was born in Berwick March 12, 1928, a son to the late John E. and Ella (Kiper) Thomas. Dick was a graduate of Berwick High School in 1946, where he excelled as quarterback and halfback for the Bulldogs. He also was an avid fisherman and golfer. Dick retired from the Motorola Company in 1993 after working there for 25 years. He then became owner of the Londonderry Garden Center for another 6 ½ years. Surviving Dick are his daughters: Carolyn J. Hammaker and her husband, Donald of Middletown and Elizabeth Thomas of Oberlin, son, James R. Thomas and his wife, Diann of Steelton, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and sister, Marge Gottshall of Berwick. As well as his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 57 years, the former Margaret E. Wolfe. Also preceding were sisters: Eudora Gangware, Gwen Brown, Betty Stimeling, Jean Kemper, and Ruth Scott, and brothers: William J. Bates Thomas, David Thomas, and Edward Thomas. Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 21 at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick. Pastor Chad Hebrink of Grace Lutheran Church will serve as the officiant.
