Richard A. Brandt, Sr.

Richard "Rich" A. Brandt, Sr., 91, of Orangeville, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Scott Township. He was born in his grandparent's Mill House in Annville, PA on March 22, 1927. Son of Austin L. and Irene I. (Schucker) Brandt, Richard graduated from Mifflin High School, Mifflinville, Class of 1945. He later served honorably in the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he attended Wilkes-Barre Business College in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In 1949, Richard joined the family wheat milling business, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. Post-retirement, he continued working at the mill, well into his 70's. He and his wife, Clarissa (Chris) D. Kyttle Brandt, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary last October. Richard and Chris spent most of their married life in Mifflinville raising their six children. He was also a long standing member of Christ Episcopal Church in Berwick, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Lay Reader, and Senior Warden. They later retired to Orangeville. Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved playing cards, Parcheesi, golf, bowling, and eating ice cream on Sunday night for the traditional Brandt weekly dinner. He was President of the Mifflinville Lion's Club and volunteered at Camp Victory. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister: Doris Adams, brother: Gerald Brandt, sons-in-law: Michael Neri and Frank Brennan, and granddaughter: Katelyn Griffith. In addition to his wife, Clarissa, he is survived by his six children: Ann Neri, Linda Brennan, Susan Harkins and husband, Greg, Richard A. Brandt, Jr., Janet Lupini and husband, Larry, Patty Griffith and husband, Jeffrey, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, brother: James Brandt and wife, Ann, and many nieces and nephews. All are welcome to join Richard's family for visitation 9:00-11:00 AM Saturday, September 15 with his memorial service starting at 11:00 AM at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick. Pastor Gordon Smith of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, will officiate. Burial will follow at Mifflinville Cemetery. The Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
