Paul Harold Rhodes

Paul Harold Rhodes, beloved husband and father, passed peacefully on to heaven on November 20, 2023 at Glenn Brook Rehabilitation and Medical center in Berwick.  He was 90 years old.  Paul was born on February 4, 1933 in Catawissa where he grew up.  He married Rosemary Barbara Farver of Berwick and built his home in Briar Crest, Berwick, where he lived for the rest of his life.  He was the son of the late Hazel S. (Ernest) and Luther W. Rhodes.

Paul graduated from Catawissa High School in 1951.  He then attended Bloomsburg College graduating in 1955 with a degree in Chemistry with the intention of becoming a teacher.  However, his career was put on hold while he served our country for two years in the Army stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

After his service in the Army, he was hired as a junior high math teacher for the Berwick School district, where he taught for 30 years until retirement in 1988.  Subsequently, he enjoyed retirement and travel with his wife for many years.

Paul met the love of her life, Rosemary, at a dance at Berwick’s West Side Park.  They were married on May 19, 1956 and celebrated their sixty-seventh anniversary this year.

Paul was a life-long member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Berwick.  He held many leadership roles in the church including Treasurer, Trustee and Usher.  He remained active throughout his days attending services, tallying weekly donations, and assisting with fundraisers.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting and fishing.  He also enjoyed golf, bowling, playing poker and visiting with his friends and family.

Paul had a passion for family.  He loved his family deeply and went out of his way to assist them in any way possible.  He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; one son, Eric Rhodes, and his wife, Denise (Gizenski); two daughters, Lisa (Rhodes) Nadolny, and her husband, Michael, and Vanessa Rhodes; two grandsons, Nathan Rhodes and Nicholas Rhodes; two sisters, Thelma Fegley, and her husband, Morton and Gloria Holderman; and many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Hazel S. (Ernest) and Luther W. Rhodes, and brothers; Earl J. Rhodes, Chester G. Rhodes, Larry L. Rhodes, Doyle E. Rhodes.

Paul was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. His life was a life well lived.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc. 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick, PA with Calvary United Methodist Church Pastoral Lead Cathy Cope officiating.  Friends will be received from 12 Noon until the time of the service.  Interment at Rose Lawn Cemetery, West Front Street, Berwick, will follow.  Contributions in Paul’s memory may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 1135 Orange Street, Berwick, PA 18603.  Online messages of comfort and support may be left at www.kelchnerfuneralhome.com.
