Mary Jane Whitenight

July 2, 1938 — February 8, 2015

Mary Jane Whitenight, 76, of Mifflin Township, went to her Lord and Savior Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Berwick Retirement Village II, where she had recently been admitted. She was born July 2, 1938 in Mifflin Township, a daughter to the late Jacob and Jean (Knecht) Gerasimoff. Mary worked for 24 years at the Berwick Hospital Center as a Certified Nurse's Assistant. She was an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was a recipient of the Ray Calabreeze Breast Cancer Awareness Award. Mary was a member of the Mifflinville United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for close to 50 years. She also helped with church dinners and other activities. Her likes and interests included crocheting, gardening, enjoying the out of doors, feeding and observing hummingbirds, cookouts, fireworks, and Danielle Steele novels. Mary's concern and love for others and devotion to her family, friends, and those in need is quite remarkable. She will be deeply missed by those whose lives she touched Surviving Mary are her three sons: Doyle J. Whitenight and his wife, Cindy of Nescopeck, Dale I. Whitenight and his wife, Carol of Berwick, and David N. Whitenight and his wife, Mindy of Nescopeck, a daughter, Lisa Stout and her husband, Mark of Nescopeck, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Joseph of Nescopeck, and her " best friend," West Highland Terrier, Bently. As well as her parents, she was preceded in death June 26, 2005 by her loving and caring husband of almost 46 years, Doyle. Also preceding were two brothers: Thomas and an unnamed infant. A viewing will be held 6-8 PM Sunday, February 15 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Her funeral service is 11 AM Monday at the funeral home. Graveside services will follow at the Mifflinville Cemetery. Services will be conducted by her pastor: Rev. Andrew Burd-Harris.
