Margaret J. "Peggy" (Canouse) Mcallister

Margaret J. “Peggy” (Canouse) McAllister, 86, of Jonestown, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the Gardens At Millville. Born in Berwick on May 16, 1937, she was a daughter to the late Frederick R. and Agnes S. (Reinhardt) Canouse.

Peggy was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1955 and continued her education at Empire Beauty School. However, she found her true calling as a caregiver, excelling with in-home and residential patients. Peggy was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, attending both the Berwick and Danville locations. Later in life, she joined the Patterson Grove Campmeeting Association, spending fulfilling summers at the Grove in fellowship with other Christians. Peggy was a collector of art in all forms. In addition, she was a voracious reader, loving topics including foreign policy, medicine, Christian theology, and even the scandals of the British Royal Family.

Surviving Peggy are her children: Melanie McAllister-Pegues and husband, Forrest, of San Pedro, CA, Michael McAllister of Jonestown, and Mary McAllister of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her siblings: Ronald Canouse, David Canouse, Fred “Bud” Canouse, Harvey Canouse, Doris Baucher, Darlas Sitler, and Frank Canouse.

All are welcome to join Peggy’s family for her funeral service 12 Noon, Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. Friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of the service. Pastor Scott Winter will officiate. Interment at Jonestown Cemetery will follow the funeral.
