On July 17, 2024, M. Joanne (Garrison) Heacock was called to her heavenly home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She died peacefully while under hospice care at Celebration Villa of Berwick. Born in Berwick on February 20, 1932, Joanne was the daughter of the late Elliot and Helen (Hixson) Garrison.
Joanne graduated from Berwick High School in 1950.
Joanne was a devoted wife to her husband, Donald Eugene Heacock, whom she married on October 24, 1952. They shared 67 years of marriage prior to his passing on April 5, 2020. Together they lived in the Berwick Area until 1980. During those early years, Joanne was employed as a bookkeeper at Brown Motors, Seely Office Supply, and First Eastern Bank, eventually becoming a bank teller. In 1980, Donald and Joanne entered Christian ministry as a local pastor. They served in seven different localities over a 20-year span. Joanne was committed to supporting her husband’s ministry. Their ministry goal was to share the gospel of Jesus Christ so that as many people as possible may know and trust Jesus Christ as their Savior, just as they had. In 1997, they retired back to the Berwick Area. Joanne also served as a board member and treasurer to Ministry to Missionaries, Inc.
Joanne lived a simple, but very fulfilling life. She loved and served her Savior, Jesus Christ, faithfully. She loved her husband and family unconditionally. She made the simple things, such as holidays or birthdays, special for everyone. She was never in the forefront, always preferring to work in the background to make each day special. She knew joy by bringing joy to others. She also enjoyed camping, playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and assembling puzzles with her friend, Vickie.
Joanne was a devoted mother to her three children: Bradley Heacock and wife, Cindy, Jacklyn (Heacock) Travelpiece and husband, Terry, and Randy Heacock and wife, Nancy. She was also a loving Grammie to Bradley, Andy, Caroline, Amy, Luke, Michael, Vanessa, and Monica. She also enjoyed being a great-grandmother to her 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Joanne was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Mary Jane Heacock, and siblings: Sarah Strong, Dolores Whitenight, William Garrison, and K. Jean Magrone.
All are welcome to join Joanne’s family for her funeral at 11 AM Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Bethany Church of Berwick, 116 Summerhill Avenue, Berwick, PA 18603. Her grandson, Pastor Brad Heacock, and her pastor, Rev. John Leek, will co-officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11 AM.
