Linda Luella Hess passed away peacefully on her 83rd birthday July 9, 2020 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danville. Born in Berwick on July 9, 1937, she was a daughter to the late Albert W. and Luella F. (Krug) Hess.
Linda graduated from Berwick High School, Class of 1955. She continued her education at The King’s College at Briarcliff Manor, NY, where she obtained her BA in English and Liberal Arts. Later, she would again continue her education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Psychology and Counseling, at Santa Clara University. Linda worked as a copy writer in New York City before moving to New Mexico with her lifelong friend, Sandra, and her husband. She then moved to California, where she accepted a writing position with Mercury News in San Jose. She spent many years there, even starting her a business with a friend. Following the death of her father, Linda moved back to Berwick to be with her mother. From Berwick, she moved to Boston, where she worked as a counsellor and in medical records. Following her retirement in 2002, she moved to Raleigh, NC. She loved her time in Raleigh and treasured the memories of her friends and their times shared there. In the fall of 2011, Linda returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family and in 2012 she entered the Maria Joseph Continuing Care Community. Throughout her life, Linda enjoyed a love of writing, poetry, and travel. Her writing spanned copy and poetry. Her favorite poet was Seamus Heaney, whom she had the opportunity to meet and take poetry classes from. Linda traveled the globe, as far north as Russia and as far south as Australia and New Zealand.
Surviving Linda is her brother, William Krug Hess and wife, Lois Jean, sister-in-law: Sophie Nancy Hess and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her nephew, Daniel, in 1963 and her brothers: John Edward Hess in 1965 and Albert Wilson Hess, Jr. in 2011.
At Linda’s request, her services will be private, with her interment being at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Maria Joseph Emmanuel Center Business Office, 11 Schoolhouse Road, Danville, PA 17821-7200.
