Laberta B. Sterner, 92 of Berwick, died Sunday May 28, 2017 at Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital. She was born April 19, 1925 in Nescopeck, a daughter to the late Randall and Iva (Cornell) Bredbenner. After graduating in the Class of 1943 at Dearborn (Michigan) High School , Laberta went to cosmetology school then worked as a hairdresser until retiring in 1977. She lived in Florida from 1987 until 2005, however; most of her life was spent in Berwick. Laberta had a variety of interests including golf, going on cruises, traveling, gambling, and shopping. More important to Laberta however, was the time she could spend with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great - grandchildren. Surviving Laberta is her daughter, Christine Davis and husband, Douglas of Nescopeck. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Terri Ann (Davis) Reader and husband, Robert of Nescopeck; grandson, Chad Douglas Davis and wife, Rebecca of Berwick; great-grandchildren: Rachel and Caden Reader and Gavin, Gabriella, and Ian Davis; and brother, Robert Wisser and wife, Linda of Az. Laberta lost the love of her life at the passing of her husband, James C. "Chip" Sterner, Jr., on August 16, 2000, after 57 years of marriage. Addtionally, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Edward Bredbenner, Dale Wisser, and Donald Benner. Laberta was a kind and loving woman, dedicated to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. All are welcome to join Laberta's family 5-7 PM Thursday for her viewing at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Laberta's funeral is 11 AM Friday at the funeral home. Her pastor, Carl Miller of the Berwick Bible Church will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street.
