Karen J. Brown

Karen J. Brown, 76, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 28, 2020 at Grandview Health Home in Danville.  Born in Berwick on January 15, 1944, she was a daughter to the late Alvin and Gladys (Miller) Hummel.

Karen was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1961.  She had worked at Wise Foods in Berwick and at METSO Minerals in Danville.  She had also worked in comfort care.  Karen was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Berwick.  She had a passion for history and was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists and the Berwick Historical Society.  Her love of history also contributed to her enjoyment of genealogy.  Her greatest joys, however, were her family and friends, by whom she will be deeply missed.

Surviving Karen are her sons:  Brian Brown and wife, Nikkiea Sabatino-Brown, of FL, Scott Brown and wife, Lori, of Bloomsburg, and Mark Brown and wife, Jackie, of Harrisburg, grandchildren:  Zachariah, Elijah, Cory, Taylor, Kennedy, Daniel, Rhea, Mariah, and Billy, great-granddaughter:  Rowan Sophia, sister:  MaryAnne Canouse of Hanover, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

All are welcome to join Karen’s family for her memorial service 11:00 AM Friday, July 3 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick.  Pastor Rick DiLena of New Covenant Church will officiate.  Friends will be received from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, July 2 and from 10:00-11:00 AM on Friday, July 3.  Interment at Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg, will follow the memorial service.  Memorial contributions in Karen’s name can be made to the Berwick Historical Society, PO Box 301, Berwick, PA 18603.  Online messages of love and support can be left at www.kelchnerfuneralhome.com.
