Julian E. Shaffer, 91, of Berwick, passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Gardens at Orangeville. Born August 17, 1927 in Orangeville, he was a son to the late O. Hervey and Lulu (Umstead) Shaffer. Julian was a 1945 graduate from the Orangeville Vocational School. After graduation, he served in the Army. Upon discharge, he began a career in textile manufacturing. He worked as a manager at the National Select Company until his retirement. His hobbies included fly fishing and hunting. He made rag rugs that were sold worldwide. Spending time with friends and family was what he enjoyed most. Surviving Julian are a sister, Martha Sitler of Orangeville, nephews: Arden Sitler and wife, Roseanne, Marlin Sitler and wife, Lois, and Jeff Taylor and wife, Kris, and godson, Jeffrey Taylor. In addition to his parents, Julian was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, the former Violetta Grassley. Also preceding were his daughter, Sherry Ann Shaffer, brother, Clarence, and niece, Darlene Sitler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick. Julian's priest, Father Matthew Larlick, will serve as the celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
