Joseph John Petty, 92, of Berwick, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at Nottingham Village in Northumberland. Born in Dobbs Ferry, NY on July 2, 1934, he was a son of the late E. V. and Mary (Lipovsky) Petty.

Mr. Petty was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1952. On October 23, 1954, he wed the former Nancy L. Remaley, with whom he would raise a family, run a business, and share 59 years of marriage. He proudly served in the Army National Guard for more than 35 years, retiring at the rank of First Sergeant. In 1971 he, and his wife Nancy, started the Joseph J. Petty Floor and Wall Covering Company, which served Berwick and surrounding communities for decades. Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Berwick and of the North Berwick Hunting and Fishing Club. He loved animals, as well as gardening and spending time with his family.

Surviving Joe are his daughter, Pamela Pheasant; siblings: Nicollette Petty of Berwick, James Petti of Towanda, John Petty of Berwick, and Louis Petty of Berwick; nieces and nephews: James Petti of Camp Hill, Kimberly Grassley of Berwick, James Higgins of MD, Vernon Petty of Berwick, Victoria Talanca of Berwick, Alexis Petty of Berwick, Barbara Knorr of Berwick, and Linda Wood; and a large extended family.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy L. (Remaley) Petty, who passed away February 1, 2014. He was also preceded in death by son, Joseph G. Petty; siblings: Albert Petty, Mary Ann Andreas, and Liliana Petti Farina; niece, Mary Ann Church; and son-in-law, Ricky Pheasant.

All are welcome to join Joseph’s family for his Funeral Service 11 AM Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick. His pastor, Reverend William T. Barbee will officiate. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery Annex, Walnut Street, Berwick, will follow. Memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick, PA 18603, or to a no-kill animal shelter of donor’s choosing.
