Joseph Leonard Nutaitis, 74 of Briar Creek Township, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 1, 2018 at his residence, with his family present after battling melanoma for the past eight months. He was born November 4, 1943 in Berwick, a son to the late Fred and Theresa (Nespoli) Nutaitis. A graduate of Berwick High School, Joe continued his education at Bloomsburg State College, where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. Joe first taught at Lower Dauphin High School in Harrisburg. His last teaching position was at Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, where he taught history for thirty years before retiring. He was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Church in Berwick. Joe's interests included antique cars and guns, history and politics. A loving husband, father and friend, he will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. Joe leaves behind his loving wife of thirty-three years, the former Joselle Volpicelli. Also surviving are daughters: Lauren Nutaits at home and Theresa Bogart of Berwick; sons: Rashko of Berwick and Anthony at home; and grandchildren: Michael, Joseph, and Christopher. As well as his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara at birth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Francis Tamburro 11:30 AM Friday, April 6th at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 1730 Fowler Ave., Berwick. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 until time of the mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
