Joseph Mcgurk

Joseph McGurk, 92, formerly of Berwick, died Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Indianapolis, IN. He was born in Forty Fort, PA. on December 7, 1920, a son of the late Joseph C. McGurk and Ruth Williams McGurk. A graduate of Berwick High School in 1940, he married Jane Marie Southwick in 1942. Joseph was a B-17 and B-29 aircraft pilot in the Army Air Corps during WW II. In 1952 he graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. He then practiced chiropractic in Louisville, KY., Rochester, N.Y. and Syracuse, N.Y. until 1990 when he retired. He enjoyed his retirement by traveling around the country in his R.V. and boat. During summers he enjoyed fishing on the St. Lawrence Seaway, and in autumn he often traveled to Portland, OR. or Portland, ME. to enjoy the season. Winters were spent in Texas near his sons Elial and Gary. After 10 years of traveling around the country, he settled in Sunbury, PA. for a few years to be near his brother, Jack McGurk and sister, Doris Naus. His later years were spent in the Plainfield, IN. area to be near his sons, Jack and Joseph. Surviving Joseph are 4 sons: Gary McGurk of New Braunfels, TX., Elial McGurk of Baltimore, MD., Joseph McGurk of Plainfield, IN., and John (Jack) McGurk of Plainfield, IN. A visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Thursday, October 10 at the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick, followed by a graveside service at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Reverend R. Edward Cope will serve as the officiant.
