Joseph Gyimesi

Joseph Gyimesi, 77, of North Centre Township, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center Danville. He was born March 12, 1940 in Gyor, Hungary, a son to the late Laszlo and Erzibeth (Kantor) Gyimesi. Joseph was a professional soccer player in Hungary before fleeing to America as a refugee after the Hungarian Uprising of 1956 was put down by the then Soviet Union. In America, he worked at the Wise Potato Chip Company for many years before retiring from full time employment after which he began working every year during fair week in the Agricultural Building at the Bloomsburg Fair. Joseph was a member of the Berwick Garibaldi Society and the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church. His interests included gardening, fishing, taking walks, mowing lawns on his tractor, and family time, especially barbeques. Surviving Joseph is his loving wife of over 52 years, the former Kay Naus. Also surviving are son, James of Berwick, daughter, Elizabeth Bobroski and husband, Michael of Nescopeck, 4 grandchildren: Michael Bobroski, Julian Gyimesi, Raiven Gyimesi, and Madyson Bobroski, brother and sister, Laszlo Gyimesi II and Maria Racz, both of Hungary, and nephew, Laszlo Gyimesi III. A wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Joseph will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. All are welcome to join Joseph's family at his viewing 9:00-11:00 AM Thursday, August 3rd at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 E. 3rd St., Berwick. Joseph's funeral service will immediately follow the viewing. Pastor Vince Keister of the Lime Ridge United Methodist Church will serve as the officiant. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut St., Berwick.
