Joseph A. Carter, 75, of Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 peacefully at home in his sleep. He was born in Berwick November 4, 1938, the son of Helen Mary (Lucas) Carter of Kent, Ohio and the late Albert W. Carter. He resided in Bloomsburg since 1992, previously living on Bentley Drive and the Meadowbrook Development in Bloomsburg. A Berwick High School graduate in 1957, he also graduated from Wilkes-Barre Business College and Wilkes University, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Commerce. Joe started his career at the Wise Potato Chip Company and then worked at Kawneer, the Berwick Forge and Fabricating Company, and the Dana Corporation, where he was eventually promoted to Assistant Controller at the Reading plant. His last employment was with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue traveling extensively throughout the United States. He retired on September 29, 2000. Joe enjoyed his family, bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing, and watching football. He was an avid bird watcher and loved all kinds of animals. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Jean Beishline, daughters: Kim and her husband, Chuck Neiderhiser; Laurie and her husband, Tom Waskiewicz; son, Joe Carter, Jr. and his wife, Mary; grandchildren: Eric, Beth, Kailyn, Brenton, Karalyn, and Adriene, great-grandchildren: Kellen, Cash and Quin, and one sister, Charlotte Francis. Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service 11:00 AM Saturday, August 30 at St. James United Church of Christ Cemetery, 443 Zaners Bridge Road, Stillwater, PA. 17878. Casual attire is appropriate. Reverend R. Christian Dunlap, Columbia Montour Hospice Chaplain will serve as the officiant. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to St. James Church. Arrangements are being handled by the McMichael-Rairigh & Baker Funeral Home of Berwick.
