Joseph Barzanti

October 15, 1957 — March 8, 2019

Joseph Barzanti, 61, of Berwick, died unexpectedly Friday March 8, 2019 in the emergency room at Geisinger Medical Center Danville. He was born October 15, 1957 in Berwick, the loving son of the late George and Mary (DeFrancisco) Barzanti. Joe was a graduate of the 1975 Class at Berwick High School, where he was a member of the high school wrestling team. Joe also was a passionate power lifter. In 1975 he was the Pennsylvania State and the Atlantic States Power Lifting Champion. Joe's other interests included league bowling, small game hunting, and fly fishing. He was also a movie buff when it came to action movies, westerns & the Civil War. He recently became interested in reading novels, especially westerns. He was an avid football fan of the Berwick Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some of the most memorable times of his life were spent touring the Holy Land, Italy, and Mexico. Joe was a life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Joe's work history included many years as an inspector at the former National Select Company. He later transitioned into environmental services at the Berwick Hospital Center, and most recently, for the Central Columbia School District. Joe was a hard worker who took pride in a job well done. Joe was a thoughtful, friendly, and outgoing man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Surviving Joe are his aunt, Verna Grifasi of Berwick and many cousins who loved him very much. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick. Fr. Matthew Larlick will serve as the celebrant. A viewing will be held at St. Joseph's one hour prior to the mass. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street, Berwick.
