John F. Spurga, Sr., 74, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 6, 2017 at home with his family at his bedside. Born in Berwick on April 24, 1943, John was raised by his grandparents, the late Bill and Mary Spurga. John attended Berwick High School and then enlisted in the US Air Force and served for 4 years. After his discharge, John worked for Argo of Berwick and later, the Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Mountain Top. An avid trap shooter, hunter, and fisherman, John was an active member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the North Berwick Hunting and Fishing Club, the Nescopeck Hunting and Rifle Club, the Valley Gun and Country Club, and the Nuangola Rod and Gun Club. Surviving John is his loving wife of 46 years, the former Sharon Kishbaugh, son, John F. Spurga, Jr. and partner, Ann Etter, of Wilkes-Barre, sisters: Elizabeth Fish and husband, Herb, of Berwick and Mary Lou Gensel of Berwick, many nieces and nephews, and "Wishbone," his pet Jack Russel Terrier. All are invited to join John's family for visitation 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 11 at the Kelchner-McMichael-Baker Funeral Home, 119-121 East Third Street, Berwick, PA 18603. A memorial service will immediately follow. Pastor Mike Delp, Chaplain at Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice will serve as the officiant.
