John A. Melovitz

John A. Melovitz, 90, of Berwick, passed away peacefully Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Gardens at Millville.  Born in Larksville on August 20, 1930, he was a son to the late John J. and Gertrude C. (Fabian) Melovitz.

John was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Plymouth, Class of 1948.  In 1949, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, in which he proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1961.  John was a Korean War veteran who served as a medical corpsman in Japan.   On January 22, 1953, he wed the former Kimiko Yamamoto.  They shared 42 years of marriage prior to her passing on July 10, 1995.  John had worked at Bercon Packaging in Berwick and at the Berwick Post Office, from which he retired in 1992.

Surviving John is his daughter:  Rosemary Thomas and husband, William, of Berwick; grandchildren:  Karen Sult Dalton and husband, Thomas, of Clifton, NJ, Amy Sult and partner, Richard Cook, of Schenectady, NY, and Kevin Sult and wife, Jamie, of Lewisberry, PA; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and siblings:  Kathleen Quinn of Chesterfield, NJ, Gertrude Ritz of Baltimore,  MD, and Rosemary Davis of Berwick.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kimiko (Yamamoto) Melovitz.  Also preceding him was a brother, Paul Melovitz.

All are welcome to join John’s family for his funeral at 12 Noon Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Kelchner, McMichael & Readler Funeral Home, Inc., 119-121 E. Third Street, Berwick.  Pastor Richard Thomas of Bethel Bible Church will officiate.  Friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of the service.   Burial with military honors will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut Street.  Online messages of comfort and support can be left at www.kelchnerfuneralhome.com.
