John J. “Jack” Beierschmitt, 90, of Bloomsburg, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Brookdale Bloomsburg. Born in Mount Carmel on December 25, 1934, he was a son to the late John J. and Helen (McIntyre) Beierschmitt.
Jack was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School. Following high school graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He would continue his education at St. Vincent College in Latrobe. Jack was an English teacher for 30 years with the majority of his career at Bloomsburg Area High School until his retirement in 1990 and was a life member of Bloomsburg Elks Lodge No. 436.
Surviving Jack are step-daughters: Elizabeth Hittle and husband, Lance Hemmen, of Bloomsburg and Jerianne Benish and husband, Douglas, of Irwin; grandchildren: Alex Walp of State College and Tonoya Sengupta of Bloomsburg; three children from a previous marriage and several grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Dudzinski of Mechanicsburg and extended family, Tapash and Nandini Sengupta.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 29 years, Patricia “Pat” Beierschmitt, who passed away November 22, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Beierschmitt and his wife, Angie, and brother-in-law, Jack “Dudz” Dudzinski.
At Jack’s request, there will be no services. He was a great lover of literature and a believer in Emily Dickinson’s sentiment that “There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away.” As such, contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the Bloomsburg Public Library, 225 Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
